Lady Gaga is ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à Deux, with the singer’s team
now keen to quickly push out other projects to help distract
from the furor over the film, insiders claim.
Todd Phillips‘ sequel was officially released
in theaters on October 4, but despite expectations, it bombed,
raking in just under $40 million at the domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him the best
actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before
it premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for the DC
comics fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects
they can roll out as they want to move on this from as quickly as possible.’
But despite the lackluster reception from fans, a second source claimed she is not letting it
deter her from returning to the big screen, with the singer
said to be eyeing up a Quentin Tarantino movie.
‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much a bomb,’ they said.
‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially
since the first film was such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.
‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and
final film. Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition.
‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is
presented, it is a bucket list moment for her to be involved.’
Tarantino was set to create The Movie Critic which would have
been his tenth and final film, but on April 17, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the project was canceled.
The famed director is now believed to be working up a new project to
mark his final cinematic release.
The singer’s team is now keen to push out other projects to
help distract from the backlash, insiders have told DailyMail.com
Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office, with the psychological musical thriller also landing
the lowest CinemaScore for a comic book movie
Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is hoping
the Joker 2 flop will just be a small blip in her career,
after the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier
this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the higher score of C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and
$70 million. However, the budget more than doubled to around $200 million for
Folie À Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but
the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel, which
features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X.
‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the
original wasn’t a musical.’
An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised by
the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered’
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared a third, along with a monkey staring out a window.
One fan branded it ‘bad,’ adding:’ It was pretentious and dull.
Has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.
‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming too.
They shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’
Another said: ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience running to see musicals.
This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’
Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene, which saw Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck brutally
stabbed to death by a fellow inmate who could
in fact by the real Joker.
But others did jump in in defense of the film, with one
hailing it ‘amazing.’
‘100% as divisive as people are making it
out to be,’ they continued. ‘I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully
committed to the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a
film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as
a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements
were a lot of fun.’

One user claimed the film is ‘getting universal hate

character study format of the first movie into the second in a way
which, surprisingly, will floor you by the end,’ declared another.
‘I’m astounded reception is this bad because this is SUCH a clever movie.’

For a few seconds, the two stars sat in silence
as they both waited for the other to answer the question.
‘Tell them how you feel, Joaquin,’ Gaga said to her
costar as she held out a fake microphone in front of him.
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel
like we achieved what we set out to do,’ he replied.

Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers
and on TV and radio.
And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what
was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas
sold us out.
Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has
led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily Mail Australia
his book is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.
Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line to Alan Joyce’.
The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights
by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese got
upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas
trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot
the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot.
He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books
and said he was hiding his employment history.
‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party
staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister said.
But before the book even gets to the contents
page there is a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before
Scott Morrison.
‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first page of
the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch.
Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made.
‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times
with public figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest blow to his credibility
has led to calls for him to resign.
Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.
‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get this far.
I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the book will
learn that this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
This book is about Qantas.
‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the aisle, Labor, Liberal,
National, you name it. They’ve been doing it for more than a
generation.
‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.
I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not
what this book is about and it never was.’
But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors the conversations being
had across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese.
‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite
normalised to him, is what I’ve seen.
‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the
front row of the Australian Open Tennis.
‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist
almost every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).
‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the International Grand Slam.
He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.
‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’
In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s
travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the
airline and asks if their flight can be upgraded.
The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a
very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.
‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if
the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.
‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed.
You’re not going to the airport crossing your
fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.
‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the only person at Qantas who can issue those types
of upgrades is the CEO. No other executive can do that.
‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony
Albanese).’
Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his time as a travel journalist, and understands
the attraction for politicians to get up there.

the weekend in defense of the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019
motion picture.
The film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix return to
the lead role of The Joker/Arthur Fleck, debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic
box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its
predecessor.

weeks ago, tracking services pegged the movie for a $70 million debut, which would still have been down a fair amount from Joker’s record-breaking $96.2 million launch in October 2019.

Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first film to produce, though reported figures vary at
exactly how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety
that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at
$190 million. Warner Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415
IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788 screens, bringing its total global
earnings estimate to $121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally, it’s
made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took
third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth
and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is
an unwelcome twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office deficit.

they´re getting when they´re going to the theater.

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea to
make the Joker sequel a musical. ‘No fan of the original movie wanted to
see a musical sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.
The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to
the wrong type of person. And yet people still
flocked to see what the fuss was about. Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations,
including best picture and best director, and three wins.
It also made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, until this
summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine took the crown.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S.
and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures

each major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite
theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and
border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of
fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump
lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny
margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote
for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by
several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

“but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country
from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he

“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to
let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the
country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal
government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.

The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity to mobilize more
people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential
campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck
in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and
both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian,
a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect
abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the
White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat
vs. Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that
also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,”
she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the
Arizona ballot question finding support not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said
John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise
to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered

James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere
afterparty last month.
A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck,
mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’
In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the
film does not include a DC Studios logo.

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for
a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score
of 32%.
The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box office during
the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the
number has since drastically dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters –
and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had
a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget
increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both
critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International
Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy
Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a
12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to
Todd. And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay
attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.
However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is
best remembered as one of the most subversive and original films of the last
decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.
Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited
Phillips’ work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.
Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard to bump
the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do
with her.
Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

on Tuesday failed to offer much new on stimulus
plans to revive the economy. The yuan is down 0.7%
against the dollar so far this month, due to broad dollar strength,

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once
upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes,
sure didn’t come cheap. There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.
Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are
few better dishes on earth…only the price, at just under £150, is
ridiculous’
Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by
Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair backstreet.
But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors
were opened to the great unwashed.
Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome
– albeit near empty – dining room, lusciously lavish, under
the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft,
crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps,
indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty,
clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via
camera phone. Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of
such effervescent charm and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we
would have barely blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp
as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard
with butter and sour cream, are a study in tuber art.
A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline,
raises them to the sublime. Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous.
But there are few better dishes on earth. I’d eat this every day if I
could. But I can’t. Obviously. That’s the problem with caviar.
One taste is never enough.

A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is
a sexual fantasy you do not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of who bitterly regret their risqué acts.
The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked:
‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’
Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were some of the most upvoted responses, Huffpost
reported.
Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex
in the desert at night when coming back from Vegas. But in reality, they were met with ‘creepy crawly desert things don’t
sleep at night’.
Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals)
in chocolate syrup. But it didn’t end well — she
got infected with a ‘crazy’ yeast infection.
Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.
User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if you
miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates for the night.
Then the people who live there start rustling.’
Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their browser history a
reality have confessed they didn’t quite go to plan — a thread
on Reddit revealed

And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging
in sex acts while aboard an airplane — might sound exciting, some warn that it is anything but.

LUXEMBOURG, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Germany’s economic model
is not broken but Europe’s biggest economy has lost competitiveness over
the past decade, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Monday.
“We can’t be satisfied with the economic developments in Germany,” he told journalists ahead of a Eurogroup meeting.
The German economy is expected to contract by 0.2%
in 2024, an economy ministry spokesperson said on Monday, cutting the forecast from a
previous projection of 0.3% growth this year.
If realised, this would be the second consecutive year of contraction for Germany’s economy, which was the
weakest among its large euro zone peers last year with a
0.3% decline in gross domestic product.
Lindner said the government was introducing supply-side measures
to try to return the economy to growth.
“After these reforms, Germany will have more competitiveness again,” Lindner said, adding
that the growth initiative was just a first step for an economic turnaround,
“but we have to build on it.”
AMBITION NEEDED
Lindner said “ambition” was needed to keep EU public finances in order, or to put them back in order where necessary.
“I can only encourage everyone to implement structural reforms and to make unpopular decisions,” Lindner said.
“What seems to be unpopular at the moment is the willingness to take responsibility for the next generation and for the stability of the European Union as a whole.”
Lindner said he could not comment on the French budget plans because he
had not had the chance to talk with his French colleagues yet, but he would do
so on Monday evening.
“We should all realise that the credibility of public finances vis-à-vis the capital markets is not to be trifled with,” Lindner said.
“We must credibly reduce our deficits and our debt so that we can continue to finance ourselves well and in a stable manner.”

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of
their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear
themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms
that the major parties look set to come together to support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy
individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the
equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the
major parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds
for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the
extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency
that disclosures of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater
transparency and far less big money being injected
into campaigning by the wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems to be
happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed
to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new
laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write this
column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the
influence of the wealthy must have been proposed
by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward
by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and
Teals doth protest too much on this issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive
Palmer
Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court
The Greens have taken massive donations in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court
wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of
virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail
dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately,
by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the
Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws
with a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor
to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would
create loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore
disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented,
the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that
could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

quite the heads up over the costly Apple App Store.
The web browser is nothing short of amazing as it will be a feast for the
eyes on the 10 inch backlit LCD screen. It supports a full
html web browser but to hasten the internet experience many websites
have opted to making tablet friendly pages specifically designed for the device and others like it.
Image sharing and saving has never been easier as you simply touch and hold your finger on the
image to be saved and download it directly to your tablet; if this worries you in regards
to memory usage simply pop in any micro SD card
and up your storage to whatever desired level you choose (however most will find the 8gb
storage adequate).
For social networking you can take the experience even further
by using multiple options like cropping photo’s, editing them and even posting directly
to Facebook or Twitter. This dramatically cuts time wasted
uploading jpeg files to your desktop for uploading
on social sites later. With the optional usb cord it can be connected
to your home desktop or laptop for many data functions like
streaming video’s, file transfers and even quick system updates downloaded directly from the Archos provider site.
The newest feature you may have noticed is the front facing
web cam, this welcome addition will now allow users to use services like Skype and OovoO to video chat with friends and
family much like Apple’s Facetime. Overall the device sports a thin sleek design, competitive price and a
open marketplace only time will tell if the this particular tablet will truly be a threat to
the iPad but to those who want the iPad functions without paying the hefty iPad price the Archos 101
would definitely qualify as solid buy.
To sum this long review up. If and when you get your Archos 101, you must upgrade the firmware.
Restart your Archos and check for Archos updates again. Next, you need to go to your computer
and check out ArchosFans.com to check on other upgrades you need to get
for your Archos. In particular, they will tell you how you can download
Android Market on your tablet as it doesn’t come
pre-installed. Also, if your Archos isn’t moving as fast as you’d like it to, you can change the
settings on your Archos to “Overdrive” instead of “Optimal.” You can find
this by going to Power Management on your Archos.
Lastly, register your Archos and buy the optional plug in for your Video Player to play additional movies.
Although it still seems limited. I downloaded VPlayer from Android Market
and the paid version of $4.99 plays everything. Think
VLC player that plays everything on your PC except the VPlayer is
for your Tablet. I hope this is of some help. Play with your Archos, have fun with it and remember that just like everything else, there will be some glitches,
but Android is always updating. And it’s all just a restart and you’re back in business.

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday unveiled
a zero-tobacco stick for use with its “heat-not-burn” device IQOS,
which may help the company avoid tax and other regulations that affect
its tobacco products in some markets.
IQOS heats up small packets of ground up tobacco resembling cigarettes but does not burn them, a process the company says potentially
results in fewer health risks compared to smoking.
Now, PMI has developed a range of sticks, which it calls LEVIA, that do not contain tobacco but a “non-tobacco substrate” infused
with nicotine, with flavours including tobacco, menthol with blueberry and
peppermint.
Chief Executive Officer Jacek Olczak said during an investor day presentation that as well as offering another alternative
to consumers who may not wish to use tobacco, the product may avoid the heavy taxes or other controls
imposed on its other products.
LEVIA “may not be subject to flavour regulations in some jurisdictions” and “doesn’t fit”
in existing fiscal categories, Olczak continued, adding PMI was in discussions with
regulators in some target markets on how they would approach it.
The company advocates for lower taxes for products referred to
by the industry as “reduced risk” compared to traditional cigarettes.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorised PMI to market IQOS as offering reduced exposure to harmful chemicals versus smoking, though the World Health
Organisation says there is currently no evidence that heated tobacco has lower health risks than other tobacco products.
A PMI spokesman declined to provide additional details on when and where LEVIA could launch, or what substance replaces the tobacco.
Some niche companies have developed heat sticks made from tea
leaves instead of tobacco, which they sell for use with
major players’ “heat-not-burn” technology – a headache for big companies that want only their own sticks to be compatible with

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc
is working on options to exit the Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country following its invasion of
Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from
Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all product launches
for the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated tobacco units intended for use
with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment
of $150 million.
Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to
scale down manufacturing operations in the country.
Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining BAT in exiting the sanction-hit country.
